Manchester United finally confirmed on Thursday (May 9th) that Everton boss David Moyes has been handed one of the most coveted and toughest jobs in world football - replacing Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of the 20-time English champions at the end of the current season on a six-year contract.
As ever the bookies were one step ahead of the game, as David Moyes, the red-hot favourite to take over at Old Trafford, following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, was officially named the next Manchester United manager.
Former Celtic player Moyes made the transition into management at Preston North End in 1998 and gained promotion to the League Championship two years later.
He moved to Everton in 2002 and turned the Merseyside club from a relegation contender into a regular qualifier for European compeititons.
In 2005, Moyes even guided the club into the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
David Moyes has been given a six-year deal at Old Trafford and will take charge of the newly-crowned Premier League champions from July 1st.
Moyes is replacing the most successful manager in British football history, with Ferguson producing 13 of United's 20 English titles and a string of other titles, including two Champions League triumphs and a European Cup-Winners-Cup in 1991.
