Cold Wave Brings Lowest December Temperature in Decades, Srinagar recorded minus 8.5 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar witnessed an intense cold wave today, with the temperature plunging to a staggering minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. This marks the coldest December night in the city since the year 2000. In comparison, the previous record was minus 7.7 degrees Celsius, registered in December 2018.
The all-time lowest temperature ever recorded in Srinagar was minus 12.8 degrees Celsius, which occurred in 1934. This year’s freezing conditions have caused parts of the iconic Dal Lake to partially freeze, offering a stunning yet stark reminder of the Valley’s harsh winter.
The extreme cold has significantly disrupted daily life, with residents struggling to cope with frozen water pipes and icy roads. Weather experts predict the cold wave may persist, adding to the challenges faced by the people of Kashmir.
