(5 Apr 2010) HEADLINE: Jackson doctor''s case assigned to LA trial judge
CAPTION: The involuntary manslaughter case against Michael Jackson''s cardiologist was assigned to a trial judge Monday in a brief proceeding that drew fans and family members of the late pop star. The AP''s John Mone has the story from Los Angeles. (April 5)
BEFORE EMOTIONAL FANS OUTSIDE THE LOS ANGELES COURTHOUSE...MICHAEL JACKSON''S FAMILY ARRIVED...TO WATCH THE FALLEN POP IDOLS DOCTOR APPEAR BEFORE A JUDGE...
DR. CONRAD MURRAY, HIS ATTORNEY''S AND PROSECUTORS GATHERED BEFORE THE SUPERVISING JUDGE...AND MOMENTS LATER HIS CASE WAS ASSIGNED TO A DIFFERENT JUDGE.
DR. MURRAY IS BEING CHARGED WITH INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER...FOR ADMINISTERING AN ANASTHETIC AND OTHER SEDATIVES THAT LED TO JACKSON''S DEATH IN JUNE.
"and in the case, rather than ruling on anything like the defendants right to practice medicine in this state, he sent it over to the judge who will likely hear the entire trial."
LEGAL ANALYST STANLEY GOLDMAN SAYS DR. MURRAY''S TRIAL COULD DRAG ON FOR MONTHS...
"most of these high profile cases take a long time before they actually go to trial.i wouldn''t be surprised if this one doesn''t take us into 2011 before we see a trial."
DR. MURRAY WILL RETURN TO COURT IN JUNE...FOR A PRELIMINARY HEARING...AND ANOTHER HEARING THAT WILL DECIDE WHETHER HE KEEPS HIS MEDICAL LICENSE...
AS FAR AS DR. MURRAY''S GUILT OR INNOCENCE...MICHAEL JACKSON''S FANS OUTSIDE..SEEMED TO HAVE ALREADY DECIDED--
"I want murray behind bars...i want the other people exposed...they know who they are and the truth will come out."
"I really do believe he murdered michael whether it was intentionally or not...what doctor would do that..."
"he should be charged with 2nd degree murder and put behind bars."
NORMALLY A PROCEDURAL HEARING LIKE THIS WOULD DRAW FEW SPECTATORS..BUT WITH THE KING OF POP''S DEATH AS THE BACKDROP...CROWDS OF FANS AND MEDIA WERE EXPECTED... AND JACKSON''S FAMILY HAVE SAID THEY''LL ATTEND ALL COURT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST DR. MURRAY. JOHN MONE THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, LOS ANGELES.
