We left Traverse City and first drove the picturesque M-37 route to Mission Point Lighthouse before heading to Charlevoix. When driving the M-37/Center Road, you will pass acres of various fruit orchards, rolling hills and vineyards. We also saw lots of Cherry Blossoms on this beautiful drive!! The lighthouse was very cool plus we shot some great Drone video from there!! This lighthouse that was built in 1870 is a wonderful historical site at the northern point of Old Mission Peninsula.

After exploring the lighthouse, we drove about 1 1/2 hours to Charlevoix. We were just stopping for a half a day before heading to our overnight RV stay in Petoskey, We parked our RV on the street near the main shopping area.

We explored Charlevoix with our Ebikes and first stopped for some awesome views of the marina and then had lunch in the downtown area. Our next stop was to check out the Charlevoix South Pier Light Station and the bascule drawbridge. Right by the lighthouse, I decided to try to find some Petoskey stones on the beach area. I was having trouble finding them and a nice local woman helped me find some and other rocks!!

The main reason for our stop besides exploring Charlevoix was to do the Mushroom House Tour. It was a tour of Earl Young’s mushroom houses. This self-taught architect designed houses out of large boulders and cedar shakes, creating whimsical designs. We rode our Ebikes to check out some of his mushroom houses in Charlevoix. It helped having a bike to explore these Mushroom Houses because they were spread out in Charlevoix. They were really cool to see!!

Here is a list of some of the Earl Young Mushroom House's that I found:

Half House: This unique house gets its name for the unusual manner in which the house appears to be cut in half.

Thatch Roof House: Recently remodeled, the house has an impressive thatch roof and sweeping arching roof lines.

306 Park Ave.: Earl Young's house has two chimneys that look like the cement is melting.

Mushroom House: The unique roofline of the house gives the impression of the house looking like a mushroom. This house lends its name to the rest of Earl Young's houses.

M. Sucher House: This iconic house blends into the lot in which the house sits. This house reflects one-third sky, one-third water, and one-third grass. The house has characteristically low ceilings which reflect Earl Young's short stature.

Boulder Manor: Earl Young began construction of this breathtaking in 1928; however, lost the house during the Great Depression. He did not regain possession of the house until 1937 which he completed construction of the property in the early 1940s.

Owl House: The house gets its name from the front side of the house which looks like an owl.

Castle House: Situated on the shores of Round Lake, this beautiful castle stands proudly.
