Operation Shingle has carved out a beachhead 50 km behind the Gustav Line. The daring plan to crack the Monte Cassino defenses from the rear has failed. Now, nearly 40 thousand British and American soldiers are trapped on a thin strip of Italian coastline. To their rear, the azure Mediterranean and the naval power that has kept the beachhead from crumbling into the surf. To their front, 12 German divisions constrict around the beleaguered Americans and British. As the noose tightens, the Germans maintain the pressure in the hopes of snuffing out the audacious operation and bringing calamity to the Allied Forces.

The 3. Panzergrenadier-Division has fought the Allies up the spine of Italy. Now, they’ve been deployed as part of an armored wave, meant to crash over and destroy the beachheads defenders. As the rain and cold of an Italian winter sets in, the Kesselring’s forces mass to smash the Allies into the sea.
