On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the Canadian Bankers Association and Toronto Police Service Hold-up held a news conference requesting the public’s assistance identifying a suspect for a series of bank robberies in the east end of Toronto.
The CBA announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for these bank robberies, dubbed the "Tunnel-rat bandit."
It is reported that:
- between Tuesday, January 6, 2015 and Wednesday, March 11, 2015, a man robbed eight financial institutions
- in each of the robberies, he entered the branches disguised with a baseball hat, glasses and a scarf
- he approached the teller and produced a typed hold up note demanding a specific amount of cash
- he indicated he was armed and threatened the employees
- after obtaining the demanded cash, he fled the branches and entered the underground subway system to flee from the area
The man is described as white, 5'9" - 6', 30s, narrow nose, and dark hair.
