Tormented by his prior failures to get Cuphead's soul, the Devil seeks revenge by sending his third finest demons (he accidentally obliterates the first two groups of finest demons in anger when trying to explain about all the times Cuphead embarrassed him) and King Dice above ground to capture the cup. Meanwhile, Cuphead and Mugman go to a maze with spooky puppets at the fair, so that the latter can try and prove something that happened when they were little that Cuphead denies (Cuphead freezing in terror at the sight of a horse head puppet). King Dice, desperate to redeem himself in the Devil's eyes, gets rid of the demons by manipulating them to attack themselves so that he can capture Cuphead himself, prompting the Devil to release his terror-inducing Four Horsemen upon learning what had happened. After they fail (due to Mugman unwittingly scaring away the Horsemens' horses), the Devil decides to go to capture Cuphead by himself, but Stickler reveals to the Devil that Cuphead's soul debt has expired because the debts are limited to 30 days, which was the total of days that have passed, leaving the attempt of taking his soul now officially unauthorized. The Devil tries to kill Stickler with his pitchfork, but Stickler is unharmed, revealing that he is the undisclosed location of the invisible sweater. Dismayed by this, the Devil decides to give up and return to Inkwell Hell, only for the elevator get broken with he and Stickler sharing it.
