In the 2000s, portable gaming was the big gaming trend. Handheld consoles evolved from the simple Gameboy into the futuristic DS and 3DS. Sony also tried portable gaming with the PSP and PS Vita, but it was no match for the Nintendo DS.

With the releases of the Switch and Steam Deck, though, portable gaming lost the quirks that made it unique. The games on the Switch and the Steam Deck are ports of games you can find on other consoles, and the nostalgic social features, such as Pictochat and Streetpass, were left behind. This video goes over the golden age of handheld gaming and the reasons why it has became soulless.
