A student pilot's first solo involves 3 takeoffs and landings at his home airport on a particularly calm day. You're never sure ahead of time if today will be the day, and you often arrive ready to go several times before it happens. I was lucky enough to capture some beautiful footage of my first 3 solo laps in the pattern on such a day at Blairstown, NJ (1N7).
The standard traffic pattern at a non-towered airport like Blairstown is a rectangular course established at 1,000ft above the ground, making left-hand turns. The airport elevation is 372 ft, so the first turn is made at 700ft AGL (1,100ft MSL) and we level off at 1,000ft AGL (1,400ft MSL). Abeam the runway numbers, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk should descend out of the pattern at 80kts, finish the base turn at 70kts, and maintain 60kts on final approach.
This footage is from October 12, 2019.
