The fine colourful threads of the Kutch embroidery seem to bind the sandy soul of the blank, colourless canvas of the vast Kutch Desert in the state of Gujarat in its very fibre.

In the sandy terrain of this state in India, the craft is said to have been brought by the nomadic tribes a few centuries ago. Even today, it is an important part of life of the tribal community and is popular among them.
