I WANDER all night in my vision
With light feet, noiselessly stepping and stopping
Bending with open eyes over the shut eyes of sleepers
Wandering, lost to myself
Pausing, gazing, bending, and stopping.
How solemn they look there, still
How quiet they breathe.
The wretched and white features of corpses
The livid faces of drunkards
The insane in their strong-door'd rooms and the dying emerging
from gates.
The night pervades them.
