As far as I can remember - family weekends had a fairly routine schedule. Friday nights my father and grandfather were in a bowling league – I would tag along when I got a little older. If my father was not working overtime, Saturday was basically reserved for chores – with Catholic mass in the evening – which was sadly in conflict with the Muppets.
Then there was Sunday. It started with digesting the contents of the newspapers. Then breakfast. Which was cooked by my father or grandfather – and usually some combination of sunny-side-up eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and toast. Which led to the same ritual for almost twenty years. While I’ll dip my toast in the yolk – I would never eat it. So. I would cut around it to eat the whites and then give it to someone. Or the dog.
This movie was shot in late 1972 or early 1973 – since I am guessing I am around 9 months old. At the time we lived in an apartment in Bedford, so this film – like most of my baby home movies – was taken at my grandparents. My grandfather is the one using the camera. And the one question I have is who drove to pick my mom and I up? Because my mother – raised in a city with good public transportation – never learned to drive!
One last oddity – other than the “teething spoon” in the thumbnail – was the hair coated pacifier I seemed to enjoy. The cats wandering around toward the end of the film were part of family line that lasted almost 50 years. Making an appearance in this film are Clancy (Siamese), Bootsy (male tabby) and Nicky (female tabby). Bootsy and Nicky had a female tabby named Heidi – who would have a male tabby named Linus – who was born just a few months before me. He slept with me every single night for 15 years right until the morning he died.
