How do ships refuel mid-sea?
The supply of fuel oil is called Bunkering .
Small tanker vessels loaded with bunker fuel is anchored alongside the ship requiring fuel, and fuel oil is loaded into the ship’s tanks.
Coal was the fuel for ships in the bygone eras and coal used to be stored in bunkers. Hence the term stuck.
