Imagine you buy a new car from a broker. They fail to deliver time after time, citing the dealership's incompetence as the problem. Are they just "passing the buck", or do they have a fair point? According to ISO 9001:2008 (Clause 4.1), any organisation providing a product or service is responsible for appropriately vetting and selecting a supplier (in this case, a car dealership) who will supply their product to the required level of manufacture, within the required timescale. In practice, this should ensure customer satisfaction for the end user, no embarrassment for the "middle man", and no loss of orders for them AND their supplier.

In this video, Chartered Quality Institute West of Scotland chairman, Ron Rivans, sheds light on the importance of monitoring the competence of your suppliers, and the mechanisms involved in doing so.
