In this premiere pro tutorial you will learn How to create film mattes and borders In premiere pro, you will also get access to download free film matte overlays. you can save them as templates to be reused in your project.
The first step is to create a new black video that will serve as your film matte border and place it on your timeline, next go to the essential graphics panel and under the edit tab, select new shape layer and create a new rectangle layer ( i like to set width to 1920 and height to 1020 for vertical videos). you will need to set your fill as white and place your white graphic layer above the black video.
Now select the white layer and adjust its scale and curvature in the essential graphics layer to fit your desired scale. we will now be applying the roughen edges effect and adjust the fractural influence and scale to look more realistic. next we need to add the gaussian blur effect to make curve of the edges not so perfect and set blurriness to 10perecnt. and lastly to make the film matte look less static, add some noise effect and set noise amount to 20%.
Now select the black video and the white graphics layer and nest them and change the blende mode of the nested clip to multiply to reveal the middle portion. and now you can place your video clip beneath the nested clip or drag and Drop Split Screen Film Matte(s) on top of your video or photo layer.
you may also need to rescale the Matte to your sequence size and probably adjust its position. you can use this technique to create 8mm, 16mm, 64mm or your own custom designed film borders.
