STORYLINE
Former Bogota mayor Antanas Mockus ended his presidential campaign with a rally in Bogota on Sunday where he expressed his hope of becoming the first green party candidate to be elected president.
About 10-thousand of his supporters, dressed in green and waving sunflowers, braved the cold and rain for Mockus' closing rally at the Bolivar Square.
The 58 year old mathematician is, according to the latest polls, on a technical draw with the other main presidential contender, former Defence Minister Juan Manuel Santos.
Mockus has 34 percent while Santos has 35 percent of the vote intention.
The surveys also indicate that Mockus would win if both face each other on the run-off round on June 20th.
The former Bogota mayor is very popular and his supporters view him as the man for change.
During his two terms as mayor of Bogota, he radically changed the capital by reducing its crime rate and improving its traffic.
Mockus' electoral programme is focused on education and the respect and development of the law.
"We need to reform the laws, but once we do that the law has to be respected. Respecting the law allows the citizens to go in front of a judge to demand justice and even go to the Parliament and ask for a law to be changed if it's an unfair law," he told his supporters.
While Mockus closed his campaign in Bogota, Juan Manuel Santos chose the Caribbean city of Cartagena to end his.
