Emperor Palpatine is often considered a tyrannical madman who made the galaxy a much worse place to be. However, from a certain point of view he was a hero who saved quadrillions of lives. I’ll link down below my detailed video on this argument but the basic premise is this. The Yuuzhan Vong were preparing to invade the Galaxy with a overwhelming force which led to the deaths of 325 trillion beings in our timeline; only being repelled with the help of technology developed by the Imperials, separatists and the late Republics military industrial complex. Palpatine was well aware of the Vong threat and believed that the stagnant Republic would easily be crushed. Therefore, he deemed it necessary to brutally rearrange the galaxy into the Empire, using its resources to produce super weapons that could defend the galaxy. Afterall, the Empires many super weapons and ships were not designed to fight small rebel insurgencies, they were designed for all out war with a powerful foe like the Vong, suggesting Palpatine may well have been the Galaxies saviour.
