Hope you're all doing well! ❤️
Here's an update for you with a quick throwback to one year ago. Last summer, Ellen Gira and I had a really special time performing in British Columbia, Canada. It was a real delight having our brilliant friend, Adam Dobres, be part of that. He is a fantastic guitarist, from nearby Pender Island.
One of the tune sets we enjoyed, was inspired by travels through Perthshire, at the entrance of the Scottish Highlands. This region is steeped in history, and this set expresses some of that for you.
This is where we performed last year at Blair Castle, in Blair Atholl, the historic residence of the Duke of Atholl, who was patron of well-known Scottish composer and fiddle player, Niel Gow. It was through these travels that we learned about traditional Atholl Brose, a famous local whisky mix, with legends saying it was used to help win a very threatening battle to the region, when the 1st Earl of Atholl had the well-water of the enemy spiked with this recipe of Scotch whisky, honey, and oats. It is where we visited the "Birnam Oak" of Shakespeare, and performed in Dunkeld. It was fascinating to discover great stories of Niel Gow, with the first tune of this set being one of his favourites.
We're happy to share this live-from-lockdown version of this set with you now, recorded from Canada, the US, and Scotland! 🌎
