Pothos are absolutely the best house plants for beginners. They are the easiest indoor plant to maintain and care for, the easiest house plant to keep alive, as well as the easiest house plant to propagate. They are low light plants that require very little water. Rooted cuttings of pothos are so easy that all you have to do is stick a cutting in a glass of water and it will grow, no rooting hormone necessary, and it will grow in that glass of water indefinitely. A close second is the peace lily, another easy to care for houseplant. Peace lilies are propagated by division and also grow in very low light. They will flower all winter long in subpar conditions. Wandering jew, croton, and orchids will take a little more light and extra care but not much. If you can't get any other houseplants to grow or root in your home, definitely get yourself a golden pothos.
