From 23 March 2020, the price of a first class stamp will be increased by 6p, to 76p. A second class stamp will see a price rise of 4p to 65p.
"These changes are necessary to help ensure the sustainability of the one-price-goes-anywhere Universal Service," said the Royal Mail.
Why are prices going up?
Stephen Agar, managing director of letters at Royal Mail said, “We are operating in a tough market at present, under the threat of making a loss by 2021. These price increases will help us maintain the quality of service that is expected by our customers, while supporting the universal service.#
"As a result, we have considered any pricing changes very carefully and in doing so have sought to minimise any impact on our customers."

The Royal Mail said it understands that many companies and households are finding it hard in the current economic environment.
Great Britain 1840-1980's Stamp Collectors Gold Mine! A rather fat little stock book stuffed with mint and used stamps, often with a semi- specialized bent (perhaps this is a specialized collectors storage / to be checked book), begins with an 1840 1d black (3 big margins, light pmk), then many 1841 1d red imperfs incl jumbo margins, 2d blue imperfs incl Maltese Cross pmks, pair, etc; Line engraved perforated 1d & 2d issues in need of study, surprisingly not much QV surface printed (although items to £300 seen) but masses of KEVII mint & used; KGV unsorted mint & used definitive issues incl mint multiples, also commems inc sets, wmk varieties etc; KEVIII booklet panes; KGVI incl coils, wmk varieties, duplicated high values with many selected for nice cancels; QEII similar incl duplicated high values. Obviously much was put in here to be checked at a later date or the collector just found something unusual like a nice cancel - great fun (2000+ stamps)
I hope you enjoy :)
