This is a fine antique English Victorian silver plated and cut glass butter dish, with the maker's mark of the renowned silversmith and retailer, Elkington & Co and a date stamp for 1890.
The two door lift up lid is engraved with floral and butterfly decoration and features a further butterfly shaped handle which opens to reveal a hand cut glass liner held in place by a sled shaped base.
It has a removable pierced inner liner so that you can place ice below it to keep the butter cool.
