MIPCOM SEES THE 150 MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN IN TELEVISION UNDER ONE ROOF
Some of the world's most powerful women in the TV industry descended on Cannes, France, this week for MIPCOM - an international television industry market.
One event that brought together 150 of the top women in the industry was the Women In Global Entertainment Power lunch, where they got a chance to network and share stories of what it takes to be successful.
Danish executive Karoline Spodsberg said that achieving success didn't require different methods for men and women. A managing director for distribution company Banijay International, Spodsberg thinks that in order to succeed women should be prepared to give more of their time to work.
"It takes the same as in any other industry, you got to want it, you got to ask yourself not too many times about work life balance because sometimes its not there, and sometimes it is there. And you have to be smart at what you do, like equally men have to be smart at what they do, I don't think there is a big difference, we just all be focused and go out and do what we believe in," she explained.
Others, like Sony Pictures Television president of international production Andrea Wong, believe that the ability to cope with failure is an important skill to have in the television industry:
"I think one of the best things that my parents ever did for me, was they allowed me to fail. And they taught me how to pick myself up, dust myself off and move forward. And we are all going to have failures in life. Television in effect is a failure driven business. 95% or maybe 99% of the TV shows that you put on air, fail. And so you have to be able to deal with that and move forward and find that one that's going to be a big hit."
MIPCOM ran from 8-11 October.
