You can definitely refinish wood veneer.

In fact, most mid century modern pieces are wood veneer over hard wood and not actually made of ‘solid wood.’

Do I refinish them? I sure do!
You’ve just gotta be careful not sand through the veneer and know how to fix missing veneer patches.
