An apartment fire that broke out early in the morning on Christmas Day claimed the lives of two people and three cats, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
Crews said the fire broke out around 3:34 a.m. at a unit on Spanish Quarter Circle, just south of Central Avenue in southeast Charlotte. At first, firefighters didn't see any smoke or other visible signs of fire but did smell a smoky odor. Thermal imaging cameras were used to confirm an active flame, and the fire was quickly located and put out.
