Should GM offer free Tesla adapters like Ford did? Share your thoughts in the comments.
General Motors (GM) has updated its electric vehicles' software to allow access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Owners of electric Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles can now use Tesla's chargers by purchasing a $225 GM-approved Tesla adapter through brand-specific apps. Future GM models will come equipped with Tesla’s charging port, known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS), eliminating the need for adapters. This development comes after a delay caused by Tesla's production issues. GM celebrated the new access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers, helping address a key concern for EV buyers: convenient and reliable charging. While GM charges for adapters, some companies like Ford and Rivian offered them for free for a limited time. GM is also upgrading its apps to help users locate Superchargers and manage payments. Tesla is working with other automakers, such as Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, to extend Supercharger access to their EVs.
