Middle East as a region has been perceived as a dry desert area with high temperatures in the summer months, accompanied by humidity in the coastal areas. Specifications for corrosion and fire protection of the steel structures have been written around this. The recent storm and rain across the region is highlighting the need to reassess our assumptions and understanding of the changing environment due to human influenced climate change in order to protect structural steel from corrosion and fire using protective coatings.
The reality of Climate Change and its likely impact on the current and future business scenarios have been well documented. Sustainable solutions are particularly important and are recognized as an important influencer in consumer buying decision. Government regulations are also becoming stringent. Therefore, the construction industry needs to change its current practices of manufacture, material utilization and waste generation. Even the idea of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle will eventually lead to depletion of natural resources.
In this webinar we will discuss about the realities of climate change and impact on specifications for corrosion and fire protection with specific reference to the Middle East’s changing climatic conditions. Steel is a versatile construction material ideally suited for the fast paced construction that we observe in this part of the world. Corrosion and structural failure during fire are two aspects that need specific attention when we use steel for construction.
We will deep dive into the existing specifications and the need to change them to suit the changing environment that the steel will be located in.

A Certified Protective Coatings Specialist with over 29 years of technical and commercial leadership within the Paint & Construction Chemicals Industry in India & GCC. Passionate about sharing his understanding of the science of fire protection & corrosion prevention acquired by practical experience and theoretical knowledge in coatings and linings. Has been acknowledged as an expert in fire and corrosion protection of steel structures.
Working with Hempel Paints for more than 11 years and currently the Regional Head of Intumescent Coatings. He has conducted several technical presentations in the field of Protective and Intumescent Coatings for steel. Selected to present a peer reviewed technical paper in the AMPP conference held at Udaipur in September 2022 and presented a paper in a global conference organized by AMPP on fire protection called FireCORR 2021.
Actively working with consultants to upgrade their specifications with reference to Passive Fire Protection and intumescent coatings in particular. Civil Engineering Graduate from Madras University and MBA from SP Jain School of Management and has spent more than 25 years of his professional life in the Arabian Gulf (GCC). Currently pursuing Doctorate in Sustainability & Innovation management. A Chartered Engineer and elected as a Member of the Indian Institute of Engineers.
