The water level in Idukki reservoir has continued to increase even after a shutter of Cheruthoni dam opened on Thursday. On Friday 7 PM, the water level reached 2,399.70ft. In the wake of opening the spillway shutters of the most controversial Mullaperiyar dam, one shutter of the Cheruthoni dam was opened up to 40cm on Thursday.
The dam safety officials informed that the water level in the Idukki dam has been increasing.
“The present rule curve for Idukki dam will end on Saturday and the new rule curve will be applicable from midnight onwards. As per the rule curve fixed by the central water commission, from November 21 onwards the orange alert level will be 2,401ft, red alert level will be 2,402ft and upper rule level will be 2,403ft,” TOI quoted an official as saying.
The shutter of Cheruthoni dam would be closed soon after the rule curve changes. The closing of the shutter also depends on the rainfall in the catchment area, an official told TOI.
