A terrible mine collapse:
In 1907, the worst mining disaster in the history of the United States took place in the small mining town of Monongah West Virginia. Marked by corruption and greed, this disaster is known as the Monongah Mining Disaster or the Monongah Mine Explosion. The death toll was high and punctuated a terrible year in regards to U.S. mining deaths. However, it did pave the way for change in the United States to maintain safety for miners in the way of the formation of the United States Bureau of Mines.
