Jayachitra is a veteran actress in the Indian film industry who has acted in several Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada movies and went on to become one of the most sought-after actresses of her time. She acted in "Devatha, Manavoori Pandavulu, Bhakta Kannappa, Pellante Noorella Panta.
Jayachitra had her first screen test for the Telugu film Beedala Paatlu when she was in her early teens. Unfortunately, the director felt that she was too young for the role and turned her down. However, he recommended her to K.S. Gopalakrishnan, who was searching for a young and vibrant heroine for his Tamil film Korathi Magan in 1972. Impressed by her acting skills, he immediately cast her in the film and gave her the name Jayachitra.
Under Gopalakrishnan's banner, she starred in three films, including Ponnukku Thanga Manasu (1973) and played the role of Sivaji's daughter in Bharata Vilas. She was also one of the nine heroines in MGR's Navaratnam. Jayachitra worked with renowned directors like K. Balachander in Sollathaan Ninaikiren and Arangetram. Her most notable films include Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu (1978) and its Telugu remake Vayasu Pilichindi (1978), in which she played Kamal Haasan's leading lady.
Jayachitra was known for her bravery and spontaneity on screen, as she faced a snake up close in Vellikizhamai Viratham (1974) and even a tiger in the Telugu film Cheppindi Chesta (1978). She also appeared in other memorable films such as Sathyam, Kalyanamam Kalyanam, Vandikaran Magan, and Cinema Paithiyam, which was a remake of the Hindi hit film Guddi (1971). Most of her Tamil films were with Kamal Haasan. She played the title role in the Telugu film Kalpana (1977), a remake of the Hindi film Anamika (1973), which was one of her most unforgettable performances.
