Lesson on Erythrocytosis: Causes, Signs and Symptoms and Treatments. Erythrocytosis is a condition of increased red blood cell mass indicated by increases in hemoglobin and hematocrit. Erythrocytosis is either relative or absolute. Absolute Erythrocytosis is distinguished between primary and secondary causes, wherein primary causes includes Polycythemia Vera and secondary causes are due to compensatory increases in RBCs due to hypoxemia.
