Supriya Shrinate, an AICC spokesperson and senior Congress leader, has accused the BJP of deceiving women in the country by making empty promises regarding women's reservations. She likened the BJP to ""Thaggu ke Laddu"" from Kanpur, suggesting that they have cheated everyone.
Shrinate, speaking to reporters, criticized the BJP for providing false assurances regarding the Women's Reservation Bill, emphasizing that it is not expected to be implemented before 2039. She clarified that the Bill's progress would depend on the census, and hence, the BJP's claims were misleading.
She urged the BJP to implement women's reservation in the 2024 elections and expedite the caste census. Shrinate mentioned that the Congress supported the Women's Reservation Bill because it reflects the aspirations of half the population. She also noted that Rajiv Gandhi initially introduced the Bill, but the BJP had opposed it at the time.
Shrinate argued that the government has the capacity to enact the Women's Reservation Bill immediately if it desires to do so. Regarding the India Alliance in the Lok Sabha polls, she stated that the Congress is central to the INDIA bloc, and coordination will occur at all levels. Decisions on seat allocations will be made when the time is right.
In response, the BJP vehemently denied the Congress's allegations. Senior BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak asserted that the Prime Minister has shown India's commitment to providing equal representation to half of its population, which the Congress failed to do during their tenure. Pathak accused the Congress of trying to politicize a significant achievement, citing the recent passage of a bill in the country's largest Panchayat to empower women.
Pathak criticized the Opposition, stating that their primary goal is seeking power, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to working for the country's progress. He emphasized India's rising stature in the world following the conclusion of the G20 summit.
