The Night by Editions de Parfume Frédéric Malle created by Dominque Ropion is the most amazing oud you can buy and the most outstanding perfume in Malle’s collection and one of the most expensive perfumes in the world*. It was the first perfume composed by Dominque Ropion for Frederic Malle and was released in 2014.

In an interview about The Night Malle says that in ancient Arabic the same word means: Love, Night and Consolation. In the same conversation Mall also said that he was surprised when he visited the Middle East nothing happens in the daytime, life if lived at night, its is a time of activity and flirtation. He added that in the countries he visited Oud was worn by women, often as a base for other perfumes, and rose was worn by men.
Malle’s web site states:
“Unlike perfumes called Oud which contain at best a trace of this precious raw material, if any, The Night is built on an unprecedented proportion of Oud from India which Dominique has mixed with a generous amount of Turkish Rose and Amber.
The Night is undoubtedly the most precious perfume in the world.”
Dominique Ropion trained at the legendary Roure Bertrand Dupont laboratory before going to work with Jean-Louis Sieuzac, one of the perfumery world's great technicians. Today he is a star perfumer at IFF. What makes Ropion's work special is the mix of precision and freedom, and his quest to create new, harmonious accords by pairing ingredients, which are polar opposites. An adventurer who abandons himself to instinct, Dominique Ropion is also extremely rigorous in the final stages of the formulation of each of his fragrances.”
