At the 102nd Russian military base in Gyumri, in northwestern Armenia, a trial has begun for a crime that shocked the country.
19-year-old Russian conscript Valery Permyakov is accused of murdering seven members of an Armenian family in January.
But this trial, a Russian military tribunal, is only dealing with charges of desertion, stealing weapons from the base, and illegally carrying them into Gyumri.
