In this video I show you how to root prune and repot a Japanese maple tree into the same container.
The tree I am pruning is our Acer Palmatum "fireglow" .
It is almost 50 years old now and has been container grown its entire life. It has been in this cement pot for almost 20 years now.
I do a step by step removal of the tree from the container, followed by root pruning and then repotting back into the same cement container.
February is the best time to do your major root pruning and repotting as long as you do not have heavy frost.
*Remember* only do your root pruning during the dormant season, never during the spring, summer or early fall.
This is a slightly longer video then normal ( 17 minutes ) so if you are up early, pour yourself a java and enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!
