Showcase by MA Fashion Futures student from London College of Fashion (University of Arts London). This is a project showcase at Design Museum, London. For this project, while working with the skilled artisans of my country, I realised many of them are not well versed with the technology. Many of them are on the verge of quitting their ancestral craft.
I realised that a lot needs to change.
My project is a combination of ancestors' crafts with technology to create Wearable Tech clothing. I have grown up watching my grandmother practicing Kantha embroidery on old fabrics. With the kind help of Digital Learning Support at LCF, we practiced Kantha embroidery with conductive threads which are attached to touch sensors. Touching the embroidery plays the folk music of the artisanal community. This is an introduction to the rich craft and heritage behind the crafted products.
