Brussels sprouts are amazing for your health, without a doubt. Some people don’t like the taste but trust me; these little cabbage-looking vegetables are so good for you. Brussels sprouts are low in calories but high in fibers, antioxidants, and vitamins.
Health benefits of Brussels Sprouts
They are high in vitamin C. Studies show that a diet rich in vitamin C can help you reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. It is also beneficial for your immune system and tissue repair. Vitamin C can improve the absorption of iron-rich plant foods, like spinach and legumes, so your body will definitely use up the iron.
Brussels sprouts are also rich in vitamin K; they can provide 173% of your daily vitamin K need. Because of this, brussels sprouts help strengthen your bones. Vitamin K also helps clot blood, which is essential to stop bleeding. However, contact your doctor if you are taking any blood thinners and want to eat more brussels sprouts.
Cruciferous vegetables, like brussels sprouts, can reduce chronic inflammation. Inflammation is a normal immune response of the body, but it can cause serious health problems like diabetes and cancer when it becomes chronic. Brussels sprouts can reduce these inflammations, and with that, they can reduce the risk of diseases.
Brussels sprouts are high in antioxidants, which are essential for your overall health. They can reduce cancer cell growth and improve heart health. Also, some compounds in brussels sprouts can decrease the risk of cancer. The antioxidants kill free radicals, which are caused by oxidative stress and can lead to cancer.
The fiber in brussels sprouts is good for healthy digestion and feeds the good bacteria in your gut. Increased fiber intake is linked to other health benefits as well. It controls your blood sugar level and reduces the risk of heart disease.
Brussels sprouts are amazing side dishes. They are mostly consumed, cut, cleaned, and cooked. My favorite way to make brussels sprouts is to put them in a plastic bag, add some salt and extra virgin olive oil, shake them together, and then bake them in the oven. The outside will be crispy, and they will be so delicious!
