Kurganets-25 Infantry fighting vehicle
The Kurganets-25 is a new Russian Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV). Sometimes this vehicle is simply referred as Kurganets. In 2011 Russian Ministry of Defense issued a requirement for a successor of the BMP-3 that becomes out dated. It seems that development of the new Russian IFV commenced during the same year, as during 2011 there were orders placed for subcontractors on some of the components of the new armored vehicle. The new IFV was developed alongside a Bumerang wheeled armored personnel carrier. The whole project was kept in high secrecy. The Kurganets-25 was first publicly revealed in 2015. It was planned that Kurganets-25 will replace the ageing BMP-1 and BMP-2 IFVs in service with the Russian Army. However these plans are questionable due to various problems. By 2015 a handful of pre-production vehicles were built. In 2017 it was being tested by the manufacturer. It seems that there were numerous problems, related to design, production, and possibly, procurement of foreign components. By 2022 this Russian armored vehicle was still not in service or full rate production. Furthermore the Tractor Plants Concern that was responsible for development and production was close to a state of bankruptcy. In 2022 general director of the concern was accused of embezzling funds allocated for the development of the Kurganets. He and two other officials were arrested.
