A vote on GM crops is being hailed as good news for researchers in the East of England.
The UK will now be able to decide for itself if genetically modified products should be grown domestically. Previously the EU had the power to authorise the go ahead of GM on a Europe-wide basis.
EU regulators will still decide whether products are safe, but then it will be up to the government to decide whether to allow planting locally.
Conservative MEP, Vicky Ford, says it's a step forward.
