I decided to give UNE one more try. I had been using Jolicloud for the past month or so. I started to experience X crashes due to the Bloglines HTML5 app. Not possible? Well it happen about 10 times before I decided to call it quits.
In my previous video, I used the final RC candidate of 10.04 rather than the final version. On 7/18/2010, I downloaded UNE 10.04 and did a clean install on my Asus 900a. I made one change in the partitioning scheme. I put the /var directory on my 8g SCHD card. I made a 2gig partition for it. I made everything ext4. Varoom? I plan to get a larger ssd soon, at least 16gig so I will stress this one for now.
I did updates, I booted twice to make sure all configuration files were written. Still, the boot time was around 1 minute.
No problem ----- except near the end of the demo. I ran out of memory. The /tmp directory reached over 1 gig due to recordmydesktop placing its temporary files there. Otherwise, I would have had over a gig free even with all my usual apps and codecs installed.
Verdict so far. I will see.
