Elon Musk’s Starbase, a community near Brownsville, Texas, could soon become an official town. Currently home to a SpaceX rocket launch site and many employees, Starbase is seeking incorporation to improve infrastructure and amenities. A letter from SpaceX to a county judge highlights the plan, stating that official town status will help make Starbase a “world-class place to live” for its current residents and attract new talent eager to work on humanity’s space future. Meanwhile, Musk’s other company town, Snailbrook, located near Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory, is still in its early stages. During a recent visit, Snailbrook had a bodega, a small school, and about 15 trailers—far fewer than the 110 homes originally planned. As Musk pushes forward with these ambitious community projects, Starbase seems to be leading the charge toward becoming a fully functional and innovative town built around space exploration and technology.
