This is the full transcript of a lecture I recently gave in Zimbabwe, which was requested by many people. Apologies for the slightly patchy sound quality caused by the failure of my lapel microphone early on in the talk! I advertised this talk as follows:
As changing climatic conditions affect our agricultural production systems, it is apparent we can't continue with a “business as usual” approach to agriculture. Something has to change. Ironically, agriculture is also one of the leading drivers of climate change. This, too, has to change. But what is the solution? In this talk, I'll share some of my experiences of working with indigenous plants as drought resistant crops and show why I see indigenous crops as a central part of a new, climate proof agricultural system for Zimbabwe.
