The professional body for psychotherapists has acknowledged, after being sued by a student James Esses that the legal protection exists for the belief in only two genders. The student was removed from their course for expressing 'gender critical' views.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy has further stated that the opinion advocating counseling for children questioning their gender, instead of an immediate path to medical treatment, is considered 'valid' in the professional realm. Additionally, the council said that it is against the law to discriminate against therapists holding such beliefs.
