Exhilarating performances from some of the best soca artists, great ambiance, drinks flowing but of course we were there for the food. Join us as Gervail and Kimberley sample some of the delicious dishes available, from the fete staples like bake and shark to doubles and roast pork to some unique offerings like authentic indian food and baos. #uwifete2020

"The UWI Development and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF) committee is pleased once again to present the UWI Fete, which will take place on Sunday January 26, 2020. 2020 will mark 30 years of the fete, the cornerstone of the UWIDEF, which awards scholarships to undergraduates. Over 3,000 bursaries have been awarded since its inception. The 30th edition of the fete, themed White Diamonds, was launched this morning, November 21, with a short presentation to the Media at the Office of the Campus Principal at the UWI St. Augustine Campus.
Since 1991, over TTD$17million has been provided in scholarships and bursaries under the UWIDEF to UWI students in need. In his remarks, Campus Principal Professor Brian Copeland zeroed in on the transformative impact that scholarships and bursaries can have on our students. “Investing in people, with diverse backgrounds and interests, can set them on new paths. My own experience, having been the recipient of several scholarships, opened my mind to possibilities that I never imagined and it is not just about getting a foot in the door,” he said.
UWI Fete Committee Chair, Dr. Christine Sahadeo also highlighted the importance of initiatives such as these and encouraged the national community to support next year’s event. She also mentioned that the 30th Anniversary event will also highlight and honour the founder of this event, the late Professor Max Richards. There will be a special zone dedicated to the late founder, where patrons will be able to take photos and remember the work that was done with this event in the early years. Over the 30 years, she noted that UWI Fete has raised approximately 80 million dollars and awarded 3,586 scholarships and bursaries to students in need.
Event Promoter and CEO of Southex, George Singh, said there is much to look out for as the fete will be bigger and better to celebrate 30. he committee will look to build on the success of this event. “The UWI St. Augustine provides an ideal location, secured parking and the excitement for what many describe as one of the best carnival ‘all inclusive’ events of the season. Using the lush gardens and ambience of the university grounds, patrons can expect an extravagant themed entrance, with themed tents and a concept designed stage and venue layout,” he said.
Alongside the usual spread of delectable food bars and multiple oversized drink stations, patrons can also expect special amenities like massage rooms and a beauty bar, which have become staples of the all-inclusive experience. Patrons will be treated to an evening of fun and relaxation complete with the carnival vibe and the best in entertainment from the 2020 carnival circuit.
The 2020 entertainment line-up will feature Kes D band featuring Kes Dieffenthaller; Dil E Nadan featuring Raymond Ramnarine, Rhapsody New Generation, Laventille Rhythm section alongside a cadre of DJs as well as some surprise acts which will be announced later into the season."
