The skills needed to run an operational team is very different to the skills you need to help lead a team through change. So you can be extremely good at running an operational team, but when it comes to change, you're going to really struggle.
And some of those innate leadership qualities don't switch easily between those two types of leadership. I think one of the other ways when we think about skills is having that slight rebel mentality, the ability to be slightly dissatisfied with the status quo, sometimes to flip the table where you're not comfortable with the way things are going at.
the moment, that you're always looking for new solutions, always looking for things that could be improved. And that's really key skill, which not a lot of leaders have, actually. It's maybe not as endemic as it might be thought to be.
