I'm excited to share with you all this VERY comprehensive update on our livestock guardian dog, Uhtred, who is a one year old Great Pyrenees. Uhtred lives full time with our Nigerian Dwarf goats and he is a fantastic working dog who offers protection to our goats and poultry from predators such as coyotes, raccoons, foxes, hawks, possums, etc.
It has not been an easy road in training Uhtred, but as my first LGD, I would say I got pretty lucky to have a dog that has such great temperament and instincts. He is a wonderful partner and I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of training him.
In this video, I share my successes and many failures in training an lgd to be a successful livestock guardian dog to protect my goats. I also discuss feeding an lgd, parasite issues, weight concerns and more.
