In our continuing miniseries on the Kure wrecks, we move from capital ships to a cruiser. A cruiser that can simultaneously be argued as Japan's luckiest or unluckiest cruiser.
Poor Aoba, a ship that was constantly beaten up. From every possible source. Surface action, air attack, and submarine torpedoes.
Yet, she survived almost to the end of the war. Until finally being sunk, in shallow water, by the Kure air raids. Her wreck would remain in place, as one of the more interesting of the bunch.
