Benny Johnson, DO, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, comments on the latest developments in using targeted therapies for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. A full next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel is typically conducted, where BRAF, NRAS, KRAS, HER2 mutations, and the microsatellite status are all assessed. Whilst anti-EGFR antibodies are less efficacious in RAS-mutant colorectal cancer, bevacizumab, a VEGF inhibitor, is an option.
