We were joined by Yamaha Artist Gulli Briem before his performance at the Yamaha Drum Show Paris 2022. We asked him how he prepares for a show, his current set-up and how to serve the music with your performances.

As a child, Gulli started banging on pots and pans on the kitchen floor of the family home in Reykjavik, and got his first Yamaha drum kit at the age of 11. He studied classical percussion and music theory at the FIH Jazz conservatory in Reykjavik 1980-1983 and at The Musicians Institute in Los Angeles – and in 1983, he landed his first international hit “Garden Party” with his band Mezzoforte. He has also played for greats like Madonna and Miami Sound Machine – for him, music has always had the highest priority, and this passion is reflected in his playing.
