Former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell spoke with PBS News about former President Donald Trump's “America First” foreign policy plan would look like if he’s elected to a second term.
All countries put themselves first, and the U.S. should be no different, Grenell told PBS News Hour's Amna Nawaz at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday.
Grenell, who was also a former U.S. ambassador to Germany under the Trump administration, dismissed concerns that Trump has praised autocrats such as Hungary’s Viktor Orban and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. He also reiterated a regular Trump talking point that European countries should contribute more funding to NATO.
“There's no question that NATO has been a very successful organization in the past. If we want to continue this great alliance, every member has to pay their 2 percent,” Grenell said.
