This is a spoiler video essay on the horror/sci fi/comedy movie, M3GAN (2023), directed by Gerard Johnstone, written by James Wan and Akela Cooper and starring Allison Williams, Violet McGraw and Jenna Davis. In this video I break down the plot of M3GAN and explore the funny yet cynical philosophy and deeper meaning to the techno thriller with a very weird doll as its star and main character of the story.
M3GAN is a robot doll that has a very uncanny valley look to her. She is created by Gemma as a means of taking care of her parenting responsibilities for her newly orphaned niece, Cady. Before you know it, Megan becomes a metaphor for modern technology and all its dangers, including attachment theory. That's when I come in with my M3GAN analysis after a cheeky review/summary/breakdown of the movie's plot. It's all explained through my personal theory and outlook.
Of course, you can't mention M3GAN without mentioning the highly popular TikTok dance trend that the creepy looking horror doll started. Let's just say Chucky is probably glad he's not this generation's dancing slasher doll movie star. Anyway, when the inevitable M3GAN franchise expands with M3GAN 2, with a release date that will no doubt be in the near future, you can expect more philosophical ramblings on that one too.
